COPTIS (Chinese Goldthread) Coptis chinensis
Liquid extract of dried rhizome.
- Actions: Clears heat and dampness. Astringent. Anti-inflammatory. Antibacterial, antiviral
and antiprotozoal. Cholagogue. Removes toxins and wastes from blood.
- Uses: Infections and fevers – especially bacterial dysentery, hepatitis, respiratory infections,
typhoid fever, and trichomal vaginitis (as douche). Astringent to ulcerations associated with
gastroenteritis (inflammation of stomach and intestines) and colitis. Hemostatic for nosebleed
and blood in urine, stool, sputum and vomit. Blood purifier for septicemia, carbuncles and
abscesses, eruptive dermatitis and eczema. Chronic inflammation of stomach and intestines,
and associated bad breath and putrid belching. Topically used as astringent disinfectant to
wound, infections, ulcerations, skin eruptions, and ulcerations of mouth and throat (rinse or
gargle).
- Dose: Take 30 to 40 drops, 3 to 5 times per day. In acute fevers and infections 50 to 70 drops
per dose can be taken for no more than 3 days. Topically apply full-strength extract if well
tolerated, or dilute with 2 or 3 parts water. As a gargle, mix drops in a little water and gargle
several times per day.
